Why paint smell matters more in some rooms
Fresh paint releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as it cures — the sharp smell that lingers for days with conventional paints. In a room where a baby sleeps, a pet noses the walls, or an asthmatic family member breathes all night, that curing period matters more than in a hallway. Low-VOC paints reduce what is emitted in the first place; air-purifying paints go further and actively help degrade pollutants in the room over time.
What air-purifying paint actually does
Gush's photo-catalytic (GPC) treatment, built into the paint film, works on the wall itself: as daylight and indoor light hit the cured surface, the film helps break down airborne pollutants — including some of the formaldehyde that new furniture and cabinetry release — and ordinary odours. Two honest notes. First, the effect is on the film's surface area: a fully painted room benefits far more than one feature wall. Second, this is a continuous, passive effect — it does not replace ventilation, filtration or removing the source of a pollutant.

- Move furniture back only after the paint has cured — a few days, not hours — to avoid pressing marks into the film.

FAQ
Can I sleep in a room the same day it was painted?
Gush Care is formulated to be low-odour, and once the paint has dried to the touch — typically a few hours — the strong solvent smell is largely gone. For a nursery or a child’s room, we still recommend airing the room overnight and sleeping elsewhere the first night, then ventilating each morning for the first week.
Is air-purifying paint safe around pets and children?
Yes once cured. Gush paints are low-VOC water-based emulsions; the photo-catalytic treatment works on the paint film, not in the air you breathe. Keep children and pets out of the room while painting and until the paint is fully dry, as with any water-based paint.
Does anti-m mould paint smell stronger than regular paint?
No — the anti-mould protection is in the formulation, not an additive you can smell. Gush Care and Clean Care are low-odour by design; if a paint smells aggressively of solvent, it is not a low-VOC product regardless of what the label claims.
